While I was searching our bookshelves (yes, shelves, as in more than one) for something to read tonight, this caught my eye, and caught it in such a way that I had to sit on the floor and pull it off of the shelf. It was on the very bottom shelf, clear to one side, and had probably been there untouched since we moved here. I smiled, and felt a fluttering in my heart when I pulled it out.
This was the first book we bought for Turbo.
Maybe you’ve read The Alchemist. If you haven’t, you should. Immediately. It’s short, and it’s amazing. It’s a book about following your dreams, and when we saw this specific edition with the stunning paintings throughout, we bought it without hesitation.
I had to sit when I noticed it, because I remembered in a flash, that I had written a note to Turbo in the cover, before she was even born.
I cracked open the book and there it was, dated June 2004 (Turbo was born on July 1, 2004).
As I write this, you are insistently kicking me from the inside, an unborn child still. Your bedroom is finished and cleaned to a high shine. Only one key thing is missing…you. As we prepare our house and ourselves for parenthood, we are overcome with high hopes for your life and an awesome new form of love. Although you will not remember this, this book will be in your room when you arrive there for the first time. To us, it is a beautiful story full of love, life, and a strong guide to following your dreams. We hope this book will someday become one of your favorites, and as parents (or to-be parents in any case), we hope to see you revel in your own dreams someday, and follow your heart always.
