Tonight, Josh and I watched Sleepwalk with Me, which is a movie by Mike Birbiglia and Ira Glass from This American Life. It is about a sleep disorder called REM Behavior Disorder, wherein the afflicted party actually acts out their dreams. While Mike Birbiglia’s sleepwalking disorder seems funny when he talks about it, or when you are watching it, it’s actually a terrible condition and the person who has it has frequently hurt themselves or others.
Here is a clip of Mike’s story from This American Life:
This is ironic, because Josh and Sierra both talk in their sleep, and they both walk in their sleep, although not to the extent that Mike does, thank goodness! In fact, just last night, Josh snuggled up to me while I was going over my Spanish vocabulary and told me that we needed to get rental paddles to put on the shelf. He was completely asleep of course, and we actually had a very nice conversation about the types of paddles we needed for the shop. Sierra, on the other hand, practically shouts when she talks in her sleep, and she will go on for hours. Hers are usually funny, like the time she was ranting about how many batteries we had, and how we should give them away because “People out there NEED these!”
Good night, sleep tight, and stay in your beds!
